Magnesium oil
For years I have recommended oral magnesium supplements for those with clusters of the following symptoms and observed a high proportion of these people report nice reductions in symptoms. For various reasons (defects in absorption/retention/transportation) simple oral supplementation does not correct this problem for everyone. Various people are seen to not respond fully to oral supplementation and get transient symptom reduction from epsom salt baths (magnesium sulfate) or intravenous magnesium. In the past six months I have been using topical magnesium oil for some people. This does not replace oral supplementation but has the advantage of providing another simple route of administration and enabling quick increases in magnesium levels in specific areas, e.g. sites of muscle pain. Pain is the key reason I have recommended it and it seems to provide almost instant benefits for many people and certainly is side effect free (expect for some mild skin itching). ME/CFS expert Dr. Paul Cheney recommends topical magnesium for all his patients and integrative medicine expert Dr. Norman Shealy recommends topical magnesium for the majority of his patients.
